Exam Prep Classes
The State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors determines the eligibility of candidates seeking license; candidates must first successfully apply for license and receive permission from the state to take the builder licensing exam.

Builder Licensing:
All Residential Contractors MUST BE Licensed Effective July 1, 2008
- July 1, 2008 marks the beginning of statewide licensing for those involved with contractor work relative to detached one & two family residences, townhouses, multifamily buildings as well as light commercial buildings.
- Anyone securing a building permit for any of the previously mentioned contractor work will be required to have a Georgia license to obtain that permit on and after July 1, 2008.
- Building officials who knowingly issue a permit for work requiring a licensed builder to an unlicensed individual are liable for a fine of up to $500.
- All contracts made on and after July 1, 2008, for work that requires a licensed builder that is performed by unlicensed individuals will have no legal standing. Consumers and unlicensed builders will be unprotected!
- Specific information on licensing can be found on the Georgia Secretary of State's website at www.sos.ga.gov
